Why eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar isn’t fixing your digestion or energy?

You’ve Cut Out All the Foods—So Why Do You Still Feel Awful?

When someone comes to work with me, one of the first things they usually say is something like:

“I’ve already cut out gluten… dairy… sugar… red meat… even some vegetables. And I still feel awful.”

Sound familiar?

You’ve been on a mission to figure it out.

You’ve read the blogs, listened to the podcasts, followed the influencers.

You’ve done Whole30, gone paleo, tried clean eating, maybe even dabbled in fasting.

And yet...

You still feel exhausted.

You still wake up feeling heavy.

Your stomach still gets bloated after meals.

You’re still stuck wondering, “What the heck can I even eat anymore?”

If this is you—I want you to know: I see you.

You’ve been trying so hard to feel better.

And I’m so sorry that no one has helped you connect the dots.

Let’s Talk About What’s Actually Going On

You’ve been removing foods trying to get relief. And sometimes, it might feel like it’s working—for a week or two.

But the symptoms always creep back in, don’t they?

That’s because eliminating food doesn’t fix the real problem. It removes a trigger. But it doesn’t solve why your body is reacting in the first place.

On top of that, most people don’t realize that your digestion is directly tied to your energy.

If your digestion isn’t working properly, your body cannot get the nutrients it needs to produce energy.

Let me say that again—if your digestion isn’t functioning the way it’s meant to, it doesn’t matter how “clean” your diet is. Your body can’t turn food into fuel.

It’s like putting premium gas into a car with a broken engine.

You’re doing your best—but the system is struggling.

Uncovering the reason why a system is struggling is the first step

Before you can start feeling better, you have to understand why your body is stuck in this cycle. Digestion and energy don’t just fail randomly. They break down because one or more key systems aren’t working the way they’re supposed to.

Some common places I see the breakdown are:

💥 Low stomach acid
Your stomach acid is like the first gatekeeper to digestion. It breaks down protein and signals your digestive system to keep moving food through properly. Without enough acid, protein sits half-digested, leading to bloating and gas. Even worse, you miss out on absorbing vital nutrients like iron and B12—both of which are crucial for making red blood cells and supporting your energy and brain health. So low stomach acid doesn’t just mess with your gut; it directly zaps your energy.

💥 Poor bile flow
Your gallbladder’s job is to release bile that breaks down fats. When this system is sluggish or blocked, fats aren’t digested well, leaving you feeling heavy and uncomfortable after meals. Plus, your body can’t absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, and K) which are needed for hormone balance, immune support, and yes, sustained energy. Without these, your energy tanks and your hormones get out of whack, making you feel tired and off.

💥 Gut imbalances
If your gut is overrun with bad bacteria, yeast, or inflammation, it causes a chain reaction. This includes “leaky gut,” where your intestinal lining gets damaged and allows particles into your bloodstream that shouldn’t be there. This triggers your immune system to stay on high alert, creating constant low-level inflammation that’s exhausting your energy reserves. Plus, it can cause food sensitivities that make eating stressful and uncomfortable.

💥 Blood sugar instability
When your digestion is off, your body can’t regulate blood sugar well. If carbs aren’t properly broken down or you’re eating too little, your blood sugar spikes and crashes throughout the day. This rollercoaster leads to energy slumps, brain fog, irritability, and cravings that feel impossible to control. This leads you to reach for caffeine, sugar, or snacks just to survive the afternoon.

All of these issues tie together. Your digestion impacts your energy, and your energy struggles can make digestion worse. That’s why simply removing foods doesn’t fix what’s really going on.

Healing means fixing these systems so your body can actually digest, absorb, and turn food into the fuel you need to feel alive again..

So What’s the Answer?

The solution isn’t to keep cutting out more food.

The solution is to fix the reason your body is reacting to food in the first place.

That’s what I do with my clients inside my 3-month 1:1 program.

Together, we look at how your body is functioning under the hood. We support digestion so your body can actually use the food you’re giving it and we build energy from the inside out.

Sometimes that means a short-term elimination of a few foods while we work on healing, but it's never about restriction for the sake of restriction.

It’s about repairing. Rebuilding. Giving your body what it needs to do what it was always designed to do.
