Thinking About Getting Pregnant? This Might Be the Missing Piece No One Talks About
Deciding to start a family is an exciting and scary journey for many. When you first start, there’s hope that things will go well… and at the same time, a quiet fear that they won’t. And when things don’t go as planned, that journey can quickly become frustrating.
You might be tracking your cycle, eating “healthy,” and taking your prenatal…but something still feels off.
Most women, when they start thinking about pregnancy, are told to focus on hormones. And hormones do matter. But what often gets missed is that there’s something even more foundational than hormones when it comes to fertility.
Minerals.
If your body is depleted before conception, it can show up in ways like:
Difficulty getting pregnant (because your body will always prioritize survival over reproduction when resources are low)
Increased risk of miscarriage (minerals like magnesium and calcium are needed to help maintain a pregnancy)
Hormone imbalances like low progesterone or estrogen dominance (without enough zinc and selenium, your body can’t regulate hormones well)
Fatigue, stress, and deeper depletion postpartum
And the hard part? Most of the time, this isn’t being looked at. Most doctors jump straight to hormones, without asking whether your body even has the resources to support those hormones in the first place.
The Signs Your Body Might Be Asking for Support
Your body is really good at giving you signals when something is off. The problem is…a lot of these signals have been normalized or brushed off.
But if you’re wanting to conceive (or even just thinking about it), these are things worth paying attention to:
Constant exhaustion
Constant exhaustion has become so normal in our world that most people don’t question it. But feeling tired all the time, the needing caffeine to get through the day, crashing in the afternoon, and never feeling fully rested isn’t just “part of life.”
It can point to low levels of minerals like magnesium, sodium, and potassium.
These minerals are essential for:
Energy production
Blood sugar stability
Adrenal function
When they’re depleted, your body is already struggling to keep up with daily demands. And if that’s the case, adding pregnancy on top of it can feel like even more of a strain on your system.
Irregular or painful cycles
If your cycle feels unpredictable…or it’s something you dread every month…there’s more going on. Low levels of magnesium, calcium, and zinc can interfere with proper ovulation.
At the same time, excess copper in the body can contribute to estrogen dominance, which can show up as:
Irregular cycles
Painful periods
Heavy bleeding
PMS symptoms
This is often labeled as a “hormone issue,” but minerals are a big part of what’s driving those imbalances.
Feeling lightheaded, dizzy, or having low blood pressure
If you feel shaky when you haven’t eaten, dizzy when you stand up, or like your energy drops quickly…That’s often tied to low sodium and potassium.
These minerals help regulate:
Blood pressure
Circulation
Blood sugar balance
Your body’s stress response
When they’re off, your body has a harder time maintaining stability, which is something it needs to feel safe supporting a pregnancy.
Anxiety, mood swings, or feeling “tired but wired”
Feeling exhausted but unable to relax…
On edge, irritable, or emotionally up and down…
This can be tied to mineral imbalances as well.
Low magnesium can make it harder for your nervous system to calm down, while higher copper levels can have a more stimulating effect that leave you feeling anxious or overwhelmed. So instead of this being “just stress,” there’s often something deeper going on physiologically.
Your digestion is a mess (constipation, bloating, food sensitivities)
Digestive issues are easy to brush off, but they play a huge role in fertility. Low magnesium can slow digestion, leading to constipation.
Imbalances in minerals can impact stomach acid and enzyme production, making it harder to break down and absorb nutrients. And heavy metals like aluminum or mercury can disrupt gut bacteria, contributing to bloating and food sensitivities.
So even if you’re eating well, your body may not actually be absorbing what it needs.
Why This Often Gets Missed
All of these symptoms might seem separate. But they often point back to the same thing: Your body is depleted and under-supported.
And when that’s the case, it makes sense that fertility can feel harder than it should.
A Different Way to Look at Your Body
This is exactly why I created the Motherhood Foundations Test.
Because instead of guessing or being told everything is “normal”, you can actually start to see what your body might be missing.
The test is simple and done from home, but it gives a deeper look at:
Your mineral balance
Patterns that impact energy, hormones, and stress
Hidden stressors like heavy metals
So instead of trying to piece things together on your own, you have a clearer starting point.
What This Means for You
This isn’t about doing more. It’s about understanding your body in a different way. Because when you support the foundation and your body actually has the minerals it needs, everything else becomes easier to regulate.
Energy.
Hormones.
Your body’s ability to feel safe enough to support pregnancy.
If You’re in This Season
If you’re trying to conceive, thinking about it, or even just feeling like something in your body isn’t quite right.
This is simply a place to start looking deeper. If you want to explore what that could look like for you, you can learn more about the Motherhood Foundations Test here.
